Hello,

I’m sports+ volunteer project is about sports and environmental awareness. This project aims to support the personal and social development of young people. It was a beneficial one month that I had the opportunity to make new friends and help people. In addition, English, Italian and Turkish languages are used intensively.  Participants mostly tried to teach their native language and learn the other groups’ native language. I had a great opportunity to learn by creating projects and apply them in a friendly environment. We created most of the projects by discussing and taking notes. I believe there is a strong collaboration between two groups.

The project lasts 30 days. We experienced and took course about different sports such as hiking, swimming, badminton, bocce, volleyball, parkour, and orienteering. I learned many things about sports and It was funny. Besides, every weekend, We made a different environmental activity for raising awareness of the people. The most amazing natural beauty is “Kazankaya Canyon”. We gathered rubbish with our team and made hiking there. It was awesome.

We give English courses for the young within the scope of the project. It is the most beneficial part of the project for me, because I’m an English teacher and I had the opportunity to prepare lesson materials with my Italian friends. We divided the students into two groups according to their English level. I prepared many roleplay drama activities to provide the students with authentic English-speaking environments. In one lesson, we made job interview roleplay game. Moreorver, in another lesson, I gave a real-life bazaar roleplay task for the students. In this game, the half of the students are merchant and the other half are customer. The customers have a list and a certain budged. They should bargain about the price. It was a marvellous experience. I believe that I could teach them English.

I prepared an environment project with participants Delia and Eren. The project has different games. These games are planned to raise awareness and emphasize the toughness of preserving the nature. This project includes three games. The first one is a treasure hunt game to find 10 objectives and every objective gives some tips about the other objective. The second game is a parkour game. The parkour is made by natural materials such as sticks, and pinecones. The last game is a funny rope pulling game. Besides, we made a survey with the young and we see that most of the young is interested in sports in Yozgat, Sorgun.

The project was full for me. I enjoyed it very much. I would like to thank my friends in the team and Sorgun Youth Association.
